The 2017 Legislative session has begun
As the calendar flipped to February this week, Oregon lawmakers made their way to the State Capitol for the beginning of the 79th Legislative Assembly.
Numerous bills are already in the cue for committee hearings.
The biggest issue on the mind of most lawmakers is how to fix Oregon's $1.8 billion budget gap.
There is also growing concern about how federal policy changes could affect state funding.
Some seasoned legislators say this is one of the most challenging legislative sessions they have faced.
This session can last up to 160 days, taking it into July if needed.
WEA will be following the session and advocating for policies affecting the region's economy, especially when it comes to a transportation funding package.
