Transportation Committee talks freight & legislation
WEA Transportation Committee members met this week to hear from Washington County's Jim McCauley and WSP Parsons Brinckerhoff's Bridget Wieghart.
McCauley talked about the transportation discussions at the Capitol this legislative session.
He said currently there are four legislative working groups focusing on transportation modernization and preservation, congestion, freight, bicycle, pedestrian, and transit.
McCauley said this is the most complex discussion he's seen in his time in Salem.
The works groups are looking at the amount of money needed to fix the Portland region's three biggest bottlenecks (I-5 at the Rose Quarter, I-205 at the Abernethy Bridge, and Highway 217).
McCauley said the groups are looking at a phased in approach to construction and incremental increases to the gas tax.
He said there are other transportation projects being considered across the state too.
The other presenter at the Transportation Committee meeting was Bridge Wieghart on the Washington County Freight Study.
WEA will report on these findings in a future newsletter.
