Transportation Committee talks Interstate Bridge & more
ODOT's Matt Freitag and JLA's Dee Hidalgo talked with the WEA Transportation Committee about an upcoming Interstate Bridge maintenance project.
The project won't happen until 2020, but the two said they are doing early outreach now, so people and businesses can plan accordingly.
In September 2020, I-5's Interstate Bridge northbound structure over the Columbia River will be closed for two weeks to allow for the replacement of a trunnion and some other lift parts.
A trunnion is the axle part of the lift that helps the bridge to go up and down for river traffic.
The trunnion in question has had a crack in it since 1999, but Freitag said it's routinely monitored.
During the two week closure, traffic will share the three lanes and sidewalks on the southbound bridge structure.

The Transportation Committee also heard from Transportation For America's Chris Rall, and the committee agreed to join the organization's Chambers for Transitcoalition, which supports federal public transit funding to make communities more economically vibrant.
