Walmart Foundation awards more than $540,000 in grants


Walmart Grant 2   It was a "Day of Giving" in Tigard, as the Walmart Foundation awarded a total of $542,404 to a number of local nonprofit organizations.
   "Our 11,900 plus associates strive to help our customers here in Oregon live better every day," said Travis Bailey, Regional General Manager for Walmart.  "We are proud to support these wonderful local organizations so they can do the same by providing our community with valuable civic and educational opportunities."
   Grants were awarded to the following organizations who will use the funding to support the local community in a variety of ways, including:
  • Birch Community Services received $37,400 to support their modular cold storage expansion;
  • Gleaners of Clackamas County received $64,256 to support the remodel of their resource center;
  • Marion-Polk Food Share received $123,321 for their food distribution capacity building project;
  • Medical Teams International received $25,000 for their mobile dental program;
  • Portland Children's Museum received $25,000 to support their free First Friday program;
  • Portland Leadership Foundation received $45,000 for their Every Child program engaging Oregonians to support children in foster care and families in crisis;
  • Providence Milwaukie Foundation received $40,000 to expand their community teaching kitchen program;
  • And the Sunshine Division received $85,000 for their Southeast Portland expansion program.
